Fighting for an End to BDL in Fall River, WI
April 29, 2014
Attorney Fred Kray, cohost Kris Diaz, and the rest of the PBLNR crew welcome Maddie Wissel Buchda and Shannon Cummings, Esq., who discuss efforts to end breed discrimination in Fall River, WI. Ms. Buchda had to place her dogs with in-laws after police deemed her dogs—sight unseen—as belonging to a banned breed. Ms. Cummings, acting as local counsel for the Lexus Project, has filed a lawsuit against the town. The town's ban on pit bulls, like so many others, is seriously deficient in due-process protections. The case also raises the question of whether a privilege exists for veterinarians (i.e., veterinarians shouldn't have to disclose information about their patients). Plus, Yvette Van Veen talks about why she's going to march against BDL in Queenn's Park, Toronto (with a border collie, not a pit bull) and the speech she's going to give.
