Donald Cleary presents the results of the recent published JAVMA article entitled "Co-occurrence of potentially preventable factors in 256 dog bite-related fatalities in the United States (2000-2009)." This is a study that looked not just at "media reports" but went deeper into each incident by looking at police reports and interviewing homicide detectives, animal control officers and witnesses. This methodology ensures the best analysis possible of dog bite fatalities, and allowed the authors to present findings that counter the statistics kept by Dogsbite.org. Breed was found not to be a coincident preventable factor. If you are against breed bans, this article covers with footnotes the history of dog bite statistics and the studies done over the years on the factors involved. If you intend to fight breed discriminatory leglislation, this is an interview you must hear and an article you must have.
